This is the post I made in the Writers Club thread in C&C:
Would anyone be interested in some sort of writer/artist collab?! I was thinking along the lines of Dr. Seuss or Mother Goose type stories (all levels of appropriateness welcome), where you guys write 'em, and an artist from the art forum does the illustrations. We'd throw a few together and submit ('a few' to ensure that all Writers and Artists are coauthored). We could pick a day, say ...sometime in January? Sort of like a clock or madness day... we could even have a custom preloader, narration, and use that page turning animation thingy, you know the one! :P I just think it could be a great opportunity for people that don't know flash but have amazing writing/illustrating skills to get some love!!

In order to get this going, we'll need some great stories! So if you would like to write one, or have something you think would work, please post it somewhere (preferably your user page so people can comment and there can be an open dialogue between yourself and potential illustrators), then post a link here. I will add it to the list. Please include a brief description.

Below are some sample shots of what a book could look like. The background, book, paper, text/font, and illustrations can all be swapped out with whatever the writer & artist create. Deathcon7 has graciously supplied a fully customizable page turning animation for us to use (ignore the links like 'play all', it's just to show the click-and-drag corners). So it's just a matter of dropping in new content.

I'll be making a thread for this in the Art Forum, soon ...so, until then, if you're an artist/illustrator, writer, or flash user that wants to help put these together, feel free to post here and I will do my best to keep things updated and organized!

That actually sounds like a great idea! I'd consider doing both parts, though still teaming up with other newgrounders. I love the page turning animation too!

oddly enough I have this dr. seuss like script that I've been trying to make for almost 3 years now...the damn thing would probably be 15 minutes long and take me FOREVER to animate.

So many projects, so little time!! :(

This idea came about from seeing all of the writers and artists that want to take part in collabs, but don't know or have flash. So, it would just be stories and illustrations. The only animation would be the page turning (unless people decide to expand on it, which would be cool!). It would be awesome if you took part! I can *almost* guarantee that it won't take forever!! ;)

Awesome! There really isn't a set length... just try to think in terms of what pictures would go with each part of your story. Maybe shoot for a minimum of like ...6 pages? No real max... but it should be a story, not a novel ;)

It would be most excellent if you would participate. You can write a story, do illustrations for someone else ...or write and illustrate your own. It's all up to you! :D

Thanks! I'm hoping there will be a lot of writers interested... not sure how to get the word out though. As for printing them... the idea was discussed, and it is a possibility (although we don't do that kind of binding here, and it's expensive). I'll have to look into it some more!

It's not really a collab so much as a mass submitting. A finished book might have 4 stories, and another might just have one. I'm hoping it will end up like a Pico Day situation where there are a ton of submissions... know what I'm saying?!

I wasn't prepared for Tom's plug! lol ...I'm working on getting an official thread going now!

...and I'm expecting you to participate in some fashion, my little Ham-ster! ;)

This kind of reminds me of a book someone linked me to.. I've never been able to find the real life book but its called The Gashlycrumb Tinies.. basically its a book thats the alphabet and it goes through each letter of the alphabet and along with it an illustration ... the interesting thing about it is, is that each narration and illustration for each letter has like this very depressing, burtal scenes associated with it. For instance...
<strong>A is for Amy who fell down the stairs.</strong>
<strong>B is for Basil assaulted by bears</strong>
etc etc.

Thats not to say thats what i picture this project but its food for thought:

Artists will search through the list, pick a story they want to illustrate, and go from there.

Unfortunately, there's no way to guarantee that your story will be chosen, so... the more 'illustrate-able' they are, and the more stories you submit, the better your odds will be!

Fantastic! You're exactly the kind of person this collab had in mind.

You can write a story, post it on your user page, then post a link to it here: http://renaenae.newgrounds.com/ne ws/post/236374.

Go to that same link, look through the list of stories, pick on you want to illustrate, and get to work! (You can even write and illustrate your own story!)

Please be sure to contact the author when you decide you want to illustrate their story so they can update their page... that way we won't have 3 people doing the same story.

No real limit on length... more than a few pages, less than a novel :) ...and you can write as many as you want!! The more, the better! It can even be something you've had laying around for a while ...as long as it works with illustrations!

I don't know you, and you don't know me, but I am a writer and I find this very interesting. Especially since I've been looking to get back into the Flash Community for quite a while. Since I don't animate anymore(well, not well, lets say, that har har) this would be perfect for me. Especially since I've finished my novel here recently, I've been itching to write something new, even if it is relative short, but it'd be for a Flash, so that'd be fine by me.
